A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
Hi, Everybody! I have no idea whether this is the proper place to introduce myself, but here goes! My name is Blanche Russell. I started a Wordpress.org blog in February called sixtysomethingsister.com. I love to write, and I saw an opportunity for a creative outlet and for learning new skills when I received a laptop as a 65th birthday present! So began my journey into the world of blogging. I am completely baffled by Wordpress but am loving having a blog. I don't know why I waited so long to do this. I know I could be so much farther along the learning curve had I not. My dream is to write in my retirement. I have been employed by Macy's in the Clinique cosmetics department for the last fifteen years. I also have an esthetician license, so the realm of skin care has been home to me for quite a few years. At one time esthetics was my dream, but now writing is! Time passes so quickly when I write that I completely lose track of it. To me that says that I enjoy writing so much that it needs to be the priority in my life. I am single and do not have responsibility to anyone other than myself. So I can devote as much time in my off hours to my writing as I want. I do work full time in a very fast-paced environment, competing with women not only half my age, but in some cases one third my age! I feel I am pretty atypical for my age in most respects. That is to say that I do not believe it is possible that I am 65! I don't think I look it or act it, and I know that my honey (who is twelve years my junior) doesn't seem to be very concerned about our age difference. My blog is (as the name suggests) aimed at my demographic, but I welcome its being read and commented upon by anyone. Some of my posts are light-hearted and a bit risque; others are touching or serious. I have made a grand total of thirteen of them! Most of the articles I have read about blogging say that it is necessary to have something to say which helps people. Some of my posts' only form of helpfulness might be in making people laugh! But one in particular has touched a number of people such that it brought them to tears (at least that's what they told me). I would be very honored for you to visit sixtysomethingsister.com and read some samples of my writing and comment on them. Maybe you could help me decide which of my pieces are appropriate for presenting here. I do not at this point know very much about manipulating images, so you will notice a dearth of eye-catching elements (with the possible exception of my Gravatar). For that I do apologize. If you just take my writing at face value, I will appreciate it very much. Hopefully I can make the blog prettier in the future. I have been hanging out at the tutoring center of my local community college trying to soak up as much as I can about anything which will help in my blog writing (notably the tech aspects). That should help. The optimum outcome of my blogging would be if someone noticed my writing and liked it enough that I would be paid to write! I am hoping to expand my world through my blog writing. Already it has reacquainted me with many people from my home town of Hobart, Indiana. In fact, I find so far that people from my home town (many of whom I have not seen in upwards of forty-five years) have been my biggest supporters. What a wonderful discovery! I am looking forward to becoming part of your community. Thank you. |
