I love Darleen's answer. Write on the potty. Nobody will ever know. It's easy to sneak a smart phone or even a small notebook in there with you!
And I agree with her about Evernote. Not only can you sync it with your phone, laptop, tablet, desktop, web browser, etc. etc., and not only is it simple text that's easy to cut/paste into your main document, but it also has a speech recognition app. You can dictate to your phone, and your phone will convert it to text. Obviously this isn't ideal for the potty (LOL, someone might start to catch on that you're talking to yourself all the time), but it might be useful in the hospital if you have a private room and don't feel up to sitting up to type, yet the brain is still going and motivated to compose.
Finally, a *kick* on your hind-side for a personal reason: I'm sort of invested in your story after brainstorming about it. I'm excited to see what you come up with.
So I'm with Crys - just stick to the required prep assignments and set a lower NaNo goal. You can do it!
Peace,
Michelle

Michelle
