Story Cafe

Hi guys! I'm a newbie here, and I was wondering if anyone who lived in America or Canada or somewhere cold could give me some advice about where I should set my story.
I want to set it somewhere cold. It doesn't have to snow all the time, but in winter and autumn?
Um, I was thinking, is there a city in America really close to the Canadian border? I'm sure there has to be somewhere... So, the first Canadian town is only a few hours away from the American town? It could be in Alaska...
It's just, I need them to live in two different towns/cities. And I'd like it to be over a border? I don't know.
I'm from Australia, and I don't want my story to be set there. If anyone has any ideas about anywhere they think would be good, I'm looking for any sort of advice.
I'm incredibly indecisive.
To sum this up^
I need two places, a few hours away from one another, one has to be cold, they exist.
