Unless I've missed something in the help pages, there's no way to say "do not let users on the following list see any of my items." Could that be implemented? Recently, I got an out-of-the-blue email from an editor at a new press who wanted me to submit one of the pieces I've posted here to their new anthology. She'd created a free account and obviously had been trolling for items (particularly as the press had already extended their deadline for submissions once.) I wrote back requesting some more details, and their somewhat ambiguous reply strongly suggested that they were seeking "exclusive" rights to the piece indefinitely. Obviously, this set off all sorts of alarm bells, so I wrote back requesting clarification. Rather than that clarification, I got instead a terse note saying that they'd decided they actually had no interest in my piece - that it would require way too much editing before it could even be *considered* for publication. A rather substantial change of tone - which I thought odd, since the quality of the story hadn't changed at all in the interim. I mean, if the story was that crappy, why write me out of the blue begging me to submit it? Anyway, perhaps it's overly cautious of me, but I'd rather like to be able to prevent that particular user from seeing not just that story but any of my postings. Naturally, I have no reason to think that they might actually try to "steal" and rework my stories for their publication... but such things are not unheard of. Better to try to avoid even the possibility of that situation, remote as it may be. LP |
