Under The Dome
Under The Dome by Stephen King

Is his latest "Epic" coming in at over 800 pages in length.

Again I will admit this doesn't really fall into the "Horror" genre, being more of a book about human nature and what happens when people are put under extreme stress. In a very weak second place you could tag it as a Science Fiction, though that's only hinted at. And for the mention of ghost's in a couple of chapters in the book (and there's a LOT of chapters) we can probably write horror in teenie-weenie writing in the tags section.

However, it is Stephen King and not to pay the man some respect would be negligent on my part.

Though this isn't a great book, it is a very good book and well worth the read. Right from the outset King tries to keep the action constant, not wanting his readers pause in the mayhem that ensues when a force-field drops around the little town of Chester's Mill, just outside Castle Rock.

Unfortunately for the residents, their second selectman Big Jim is only too ready to play dictator, even if it means he has to construct some nasty incidents against his own town to get their trust. Luckily for Big Jim, "Duke" the sheriff, whose gathered some very damning evidence against him (before the dome) is killed out by the dome. This allows Big Jim to instate his own man to the office, and to run the police force through him.

Barbie, a short-order cook becomes a thorn in Big Jim's side when he's recalled to the Army and made General and given the duty of overseeing the town. Big Jim quickly turns this to his advantage, with the help of the police force and his brain tumor ridden murderous son Junior.

This is one hell of a roller-coaster ride with massive climbs and speeding falls, twists throw you around until you don't know what will happen next.

The novel is filled with great characterisations and wonderful story-telling skill.

9/10
