This may have been suggested before, but it bears repeating.
I love the idea of interactive stories, but allowing only two "choices" for each "chapter" is horribly limiting.
From a technical stand point, I can't see any reason not to allow a couple more options, even making it completely arbitrary, with contributing authors adding as many "choices" as they wish. Having a flatter tree might even reduce the number of "chapters" over all (reducing both storage space and number of links being tracked), as you wouldn't have to waste so many asking people a series of Yes/No questions to determine what they want.
And from a story telling standpoint, it would foster and encourage a much richer, more diverse set of evolving plot-threads for each story. Though as always, the real quality of a story depends on the quality of the contributors. But even allowing that caveat, its a truism that the artist and the art is constrained and shaped by the tools, as much as vice-versa.
