This seems to me as a nonissue. Why can't we redefine the traditional meaning of "marriage"? As our world changes, traditions often have to change to accommodate the modernizing world, and that's indisputable.

Also, the United States is a secular country. This means that no legal decisions should ever be made on the basis of something religious. So it really doesnt matter that by legalizing gay marriage, it's going to offend the religious. And also consider that there are numerous Christians who support gay marriage as well, so the point you just made, actually isnt about conceding to the religious, it's conceding to the majority.

Violation of "Holy sacrament" really is a bad point. Imagine a Hindu making using the same point. Perhaps eating beef would become illegal too.
