To quell writers block I first sit down with my manuscript and a bottle of captain morgan rum. I read the whole thing and the entire time I am reminded of my entire work and where I wanted to go with it. If that doesn't work, I like to sit down and watch movies. Usually of the same genre. It's a great way to find inspiration and in a short period of time.
If you need new ideas for a new work, the process is much more difficult. I usually find inspiration when I peruse the library for a book I would like to read. I also find inspiration when I am doing a repetitive task such as mowing my lawn or rowing a boat. I hope this helps. It also helps to talk to other writers and ask an opinion.
