I start with the basics of name, age, what they look like etc. Then go into questions like:
failures, triumphs, shy or outgoing, what is in his/her drawers, desk, closet, what do they treasure, who is their best friend, why do they have sibling how do they interact etc. There are a total of 64 questions.
Then I use things about people I know to create quirks of the characters. For example if I was writing about someone who is a total neat freak, I would put down they hate dust and every night before they can go to bed they dust their room. I have a friend who doesn't go that far but since she has black night stands she can not sleep if there is a speck of dust on them.
