Re: POD???
I love Lulu!

I know that some people have had problems, but Lulu staff does their utmost to resolve all issues, and their designated "Lulu Masters" and "PowerPosters" (I'm one of the latter, but tend to be a bit shy) always try to help out in the forums with "how to" type questions and getting issues to the attention of staff if they can't resolve them right there.

Do your homework - read up on what Lulu is and does, and what it is not and does not do. You're pretty much in charge, and you can list YOURSELF as publisher, since that's what you are when you go that route. It's pretty easy (but moreso if you know how to edit your work, format it like a book, and produce an attractive PDF). If you can do your own cover art, you'll be more pleased with the results - but they have an extensive collection of "stock covers" that you can use, at no charge, if that's beyond your means and ability. There are no minimum quantities to buy, and all you need pay for (all of which is OPTIONAL, mind you) is copies of your book (any number you want, from ZERO to thousands) and an ISBN or ISBN Plus for expanded distribution, if you want to sell through online bookstores. (You can sell books yourself or through Lulu for $0. A storefront and processing of any payments is provided free, and handled by Lulu.)

It's easier than dealing directly with a printer, but without the option of fancy offset printing and extensive choices of paper, binding options, etc. It's POD (which is PRINT on demand, not PUBLISH on demand - although, it IS the latter, too).

See http://www.lulu.com/hjahangiri or http://www.lulu.com/vzabel. The latter shows a book I co-authored with Vivian Author IconMail Icon that has all the bells and whistles - ISBN Plus (you can find it on Amazon.com and BN.com), custom cover, the whole nine yards. The former is just my Lulu storefront; those books aren't available elsewhere (no ISBN) and the only cost to me has been the few copies I've bought myself. I've been very pleased with the whole experience, and I guess I've been there about two or three years now! Doesn't seem that long, but my 2001 NaNoNovel's published there! (You have to join the site and set your content ratings filter to "Mature" to see it.)
