Do you write for publication? What markets? Use market guides? Which ones? |
Sorry to be gone so long, I was ill. Looking over the most recent posts: As has been said, clips means copies of already published items. This is one of those "you can't get there from here" things, however, check out your local newspapers and news magazines. They pay next to nothing but they buy stuff because otherwise they can't convince advertisers that anybody reads their rag! See my port for a sample of stuff I've sold this way, now I have clips aplenty. Finding a market: Writer's Digest and Writer's Market have the most complete info I've ever found, but if you aren't finding what you want, go do a Google search as if you're a reader (boy magazine story teen car). Whatever somebody searching for your story might search on. This should lead you to several potential markets. Selling a novel: editors I've met have ALL said a first-timer needs to have the complete novel in hand. Nobody trusts a newbie to complete the work, unless you're already famous in some other way. You send whatever they want, usually a couple of chapters and a synopsis; but you must assure them that the novel is complete or they won't even try to read it. I'm very glad to be back, I hope you'll keep posting here, all of you.
