Hmmm... Why do I write erotica? One reason is to take a break from other styles of writing. I write in several different genres, and switch between them at times to give myself a break, a "refresher" if you will. It also helps stretch my abilities. Another reason is a self-imposed challenge. I often like to write what I call "relationship erotica," where there's a relationship of some sort between the two (three, eight, however many) people involved. It's not just a sex fest; they have to be real people with real emotions. Frankly, this is something I feel is missing from most of the erotica that is out there, and providing it is a challenge. One area I'll admit doesn't always have the relationship angle to it is mind-control erotica. This is a pretty big sub-genre in itself. And even though there may not be a "relationship" involved, I still try my best to have real people with real emotions. I think I mentioned this in my "turn offs" comment, but cardboard cutout characters make me stop reading a story; I'm certainly going to do my best to avoid them in my own writing! (indent)And frankly, sometimes, it's nice to put a recurring character in a totally different situation and see what you come up with. It let's the creative juices flow. And it's always good to stretch your mind. Frankly, writing erotica can be fun. Not to mention somewhat self-illuminating. That illumination can be good or bad, depending on where you go with it. But it's always interesting. And that's part of the challenge. SkyHawk - Into The Music |
