i just remembered my younger sister when i started to write this kind of story.
[Introduction]
Shanelle was an intelligent and a disciplined child in their family. She is also a sweet, kind, and loving sister. The eldest daughter in their family. She has a little sister named Selene. After their parents died in a tragic accident, Shanelle was the one who was taking care of her little sister. That’s why they were much close to each other. After she graduated from college, she quickly finds a job. For her to earned enough money to buy a house. She and her little sister were always happy living together.
One day, as she and Selene were both enjoying their lunch at the park, Shanelle realized that her sister is not eating. Suddenly, Selene coughs so hard and covers her mouth with her hands. “Selene, did you go to the doctor yesterday?” Shanelle asked. “Ah, Yes.” Selene answered and coughs more. “Are you okay? Do you want a bottle of water?”
“Yeah, Thanks.” she coughs all over again and covers her mouth. When she takes off her hand, she saw that it was filled with blood. She coughs again, and a minute later Selene fainted. Shanelle hurriedly brought her sister to the nearest hospital and called her best friend, Jenine.
At the hospital, Jenine came and saw Shanelle near the door of the emergency room. “Shane, what happened?” Jenine asked. “I don’t really know, she just fainted. Jenine, thank you, you came.” Jenine just smiled at her. The doctor came and asked “Who is the patient’s family?” “I’m her sister. Doc how is she?”. “Miss, did your sister told you about the result of her check up yesterday?”. “No, why, is there any problem?”. “Well, yesterday, I found out that she has a blood cancer. And based on her last check up, she has chronic lymphocytic leukemia. She is already in the fourth stage of the cancer. .“No! This is not happening. ” Shanelle shouted crying, as she never expected that her sister is sick. She was absolutely shocked. “Doc, is there any way to cure this kind of illness?” Jenine asked the doctor. “Yes, there is but on her situation I think I can’t help her, because she was already in the fourth stage and it was too late to cure her. The only thing that we could all do now is to pray and hope for her to get well.” the Doctor ended with a sigh. “Well, I need to go, I’m in a hurry. I still have many patients to visit. The nurse will lead you to your sister’s room later.”
“Thanks doctor.” Shanelle wiped her tears. A few minutes later, a nurse came to Shanelle and Jenine and led them to Selene’s room. As they entered the room, she found Selene looking at the window, watching the falling leaves. “Ate, what did the doctor told you?” Selene asked. “She said you need some rest to get well.”
“Ate I wanted to go to the amusement park tomorrow.” “Sure we’ll ask the doctor for permission.” “Promise?” “Yes, promise!” And Selene smiled at her. She saw the notebook on top of Selene’s blanket. “What’s that?”
“Ah, this? Nothing! Just writing my new stories. “
“Ah, okay. It’s already 9:30 p.m. You should go to sleep right now.”. “Goodnight ate, I love you.”. “Goodnight, I love you too. Go rest now and tomorrow you will enjoy. ”. The next day, as promised, they went to amusement park. They both were enjoying their selves. They eat ice cream. Ride on a bam car. After that they went to a mall and watched a movie. Selene saw a gift shop and pulled Shanelle in. Selene bought her big sister a big white teddy bear. “Ate, do you remember our mother’s gift on your 12th birthday?” .Selene asked.
“Why yes, was that the white teddy bear? Why?”. “Yes, that’s why I wanted you to give this.” She gave the teddy bear to Shanelle. “Thank You. Sis, I want to give you this too. My necklace. This means that you are a good sister”. Puts her necklace on her sister. “Thanks ate for everything. I love you.”. “I love you, too. Now, let’s go back to the hospital. You still have to attend your chemo therapy”. “You knew?” “Yes the doctor told me. Why didn’t you?”. “I got scared. I don’t have the heart to hurt you. I know sooner or later you will find out. So I let the doctor to tell you that I’m sick.” Tears fall from her eyes. “Ssshh, hush now. I’m here. I won’t leave you. I want you to fight for your life.” She wanted to cry too, but seeing her sister in that situation makes her strong enough. Because Selene needs someone to lean on “Okay.”
When they came back to the hospital. Selene coughs again, so Shanelle quickly helds out her handkerchief. “Are you okay?” she asked her sister. “Yes”. “Next time, cover your mouth with a handkerchief. Let’s go now.”. “Okay”. After several months, Selene was already becoming weak. The hospital became her home now. In her room, she coughs hard continuously. “Wait, I’ll call the nurse”. Selene grabbed her hand. “No.”
“But-”
“Ate, just bring me to the beach. I just wanted to see the sunset.” she looked straight to her big sister’s eyes.
“Okay.” they both ride on Shanelle’s red car. When they both reached the beach, Shanelle brought out a thick shawl and put it on her little sister’s shoulder.
“You might catch a cold.” Shanelle smiled. “Thanks” she smiled back to her sister. Selene almost fell but her sister catches her. Selene smiled.
“Ate, do you remember the time when we played hide and seek?” Selene asked. “Yes, I also remembered Mom made us a cake but Dad stumbled and fell on the cake.” Shanelle laughed. “Ate, will you make a cake for me someday?” Selene requested. “Of course” “Ate, are you going to miss me when I’m gone?” Shanelle stared at her sister in a moment and tears started to fall on her cheeks. “Yes.”. “Ate stop crying.” Selene looks at the beautiful sunset. Then she pointed to the sea. “Ate, I can see Mom and Dad waving” She said weakly. Shanelle can’t help but cry again. Suddenly, Selene closed her eyes and slowly Shanelle noticed her sister’s hand is falling down. It’s the sign that Selene is now leaving her. “No, Selene, wake up. Wake up. No, please wake up.” Shanelle shouted crying. “Help! Someone, please help us. Wake up, please. Wake up! Don’t leave me! Please!” Shanelle shouted crying. “Noooooo!!!”
At their house, after the funeral, Shanelle was packing Selene’s things to a box. She can’t stop crying. When she opened Selene’s drawer at her side table beside her bed, she found Selene’s notebook. It is the story that she made. This was the notebook that she saw at the hospital. She thinks she had brought it back to the house when she was packing her clothes to wear at the hospital. So she read the notebook. It was really a story. And it has note from Selene at the first page. It says, Ate,
When mom and dad died, you were the only one who took care of me. You even finished your studies and earned money for you to send me to school. I really appreciate what you did for me. If only mom and dad could see what you have done for me, they would really be happy and proud of you. You’re the bestest sister I ever had. I didn’t ask for more from God. But when I found out about my cancer, I didn’t have the strength to tell you the truth. I’m really sorry Ate. I asked God to make me stay with you forever. Doing great things together. Laughing together remember the time we spent together? I will always remember that. Remember the notebook you saw on my blanket? It is a story but, at that time, I was really writing a letter for you. You know, I still wanted to be a writer someday. But I think will never achieve that dream. I’ll give you this notebook as a remembrance before I leave. Always read the story whenever you think of me. I love you Ate. Take care always.
Love,
Selene
When Shanelle stopped reading, she started to read the story her sister made. She noticed that her sister real-life story is similar to the story. But the other part is not yet finished. So she continued what her sister didn’t finish. She published the notebook to the company where she was working. The book became popular. And she finally decided to make her own story too. She became popular. She achieved what her sister’s dream. When she was awarded for her best selling stories, she dedicated it to her sister which became her inspiration for writing good stories.
After one year, Shanelle visited her sister at the cemetery. She brought her sister’s favorite cake made by her. “It’s been a year Selene, I missed you so much. I wish you’re with mom and dad now. Happy with each other. Everyday seems to be alone and quiet for me. But I’m starting to cope up now. Because I know it will al l make you sad there. Alright, I’m going now. Bye.” Shanelle left a bouquet of pink roses with the cake. Then she left. And she promised that starting from now on she will go on with her life now without her family. She never wanted to waste every moment of her life and will enjoy every single day she lived. She will never forget how she was happy being with her family. Most of all, her sister. And the unforgettable moments with her.
