The simplicity of my day to day.

Pardon?
Unfortunately I speak only English and count myself very lucky that it’s my first language. The reason being people from English speaking countries expect people from other countries to speak it.
I’ve tried at different times in my life to learn French. It would have been useful when living in England to be able to converse with our neighbours across the Channel. However now Asian languages would be beneficial as Australia is close to Indonesia and we also have many Chinese tourists. Of course that was before the Coronavirus outbreak.
Learning a new language becomes more difficult the older one gets. I love listening to children speak from a multi cultural household. They begin with a mix of the languages they are exposed to seemingly having no difficulty sorting out the complexities.
Sometimes people are speaking my native English and yet I can’t understand them! Does anyone else have that trouble?
