Under the Full Worm Moon

Dancing naked in the moonlight
the muse of March skips
across the field of memory
scattering the small seeds of joy
before the arrival of the vernal equinox.

Springs song flows down dry stream beds,
uprooting the rotten illusions of yesterday
and preparing the ground
for new growth.

Sap rises through the veins of trees,
snow melts,
the ground warms
startles earthworms
pushing them upward.

Bees buzz
from strawberry bush
to strawberry bush,
while humans wait
their impatience and hunger
for pancakes and waffles palatable.

Winter has passed!
Hands and feet are no longer condemned to imprisonment
in wool gloves or socks

Under the full worm moon
trees and flowers celebrate
happy that the harsh winter
did not execute their roots.
