The "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" prompt for the 50/50 challenge What is the weirdest way you have ever heard of someone trying to cure a cold or a headache? Today's fee is 500 GPs. Grandma Mary's cure for colds, fever, and the flue was hot lemon tea, horehound candy and chicken soup. Her cure for a head ache was to lie with our eyes closed and put a warm damp washrag over our eyes. She had two cures for insomnia (1) to get out of bed and clean her house or (2) sit at the kitchen table and play a game of Klondike solitaire (Grandma called this "playing cards with the Devil"). If Grandpa Frank had a cure for anything these it was a hot cup of cowboy coffee. My headache cure is to sit down in the recliner or lay down on the couch with my eyes closed and a crocheted throw over my head. I close my eyes, recite a healing prayer revealed by Baha'u'llah and then focus my mind on relaxing my body. I usually fall asleep before I finish relaxing my body which is alright because when I wake up the headache is usually gone. Because of health problems I don't like to take over-the-counter pain medication. Since most of my headaches are caused by stress I don't think over-the-counter medication will work on them. |
