The Years , Lilly's Dress
During my childhood days my friends and I were playing out with dresses that were our mothers and high shoes. I was raised by my grand mother, and my aunts and uncles.
My aunt lily gave me a dress to play out with my friends, and we were playing housewives and wearing high heeled shoes. There was the sound of a trumpet no notes just a blast. It was the rag man, and on the lorry he had candy. In the forties sweets were rationed and grandmother always made me bring a cup back when she gave rags.
I knew the candy bars would go first and quick. I looked at the dress and whipped it over my head and gave Aunt L it to the rag man. My aunt observed all this from the window and was calling me inside to scold me, and without hesitation I ran to the to the next street so I could eat my candy bar.
