BC: OCD about the ADT
Checking email, most of us don't have jobs that require it but we do it anyway. It is simply compulsive behavior.

What other compulsive behaviors do you have? How can we get control of our compulsiveness?

I was about to get snotty and say I don't have any compulsions, but there is something I notice I do, and I mean a lot. And that is, upon exiting whatever structure I happen to be in, I will check the locks. Two or three times. I will walk back to a car to see if the door is locked and the trunk is latched. I will tour a house 2 or 3 times to make sure the door is locked. It's just what I do. I am abnormally concerned about security I guess.
