Chapter 4
Janet woke up the next morning.
She'd been sleeping for a long time she thought as the nurse brought her breakfast.
"Bacon, eggs and toast are my favorite! Thank you!"
"You are welcome, Janet! Eat up! You have a long day ahead of you today!"
"Why, what's today?" Janet asked.
"Janet! How in the world could anyone forget its their birthday? We've been planning it for
weeks!"
"It's my birthday!?!" Janet asked almost yelling.
"It's your birthday, Janet! Happy Birthday!"
The nurse gave Janet a hug. Janet just tensed.
How could anyone in their right mind forget their birthday?
Janet decided she'd look on her phone.
She reached out from under the covers to grab her phone and that's when she spotted it.
It was faint but it was there.
She hurridly hid her hands back under the covers.
The nurse disappeared out into the hall. "Hurry and take a shower and get dressed, Janet,
your parents will be here pretty soon!" She called behind her.
Janet waited until the nurses footsteps couldn't be heard in the hallway anymore.
"Oh my God! What is this? What the hell is this!?!" She asked the empty room as she looked at her
blood stained hand.
Janet tried to remember.
Nothing.
She tried not to freak out.
Why couldn't she remember?
Did she hurt herself? If she'd hurt herself these nurses would have her strapped down and she
wouldn't be able to move for days.
Maybe she cut herself accidently and while she slept she wiped it off?
Janet got out of bed.
"Oh my God!" she screamed to herself as she noticed the huge spot of blood on her sheet and night
gown. "What the hell did I do?"
"Oh my God! Oh my God," she said aloud, "My parents are gonna be here!"
Janet's hands were shaking. She wadded up her sheets, threw them in her backpack and stuffed
papers over them.
She got a new set out of the cupboards, as she's seen the nurses do every morning. She made her
bed and jumped in the shower.
She almost felt faint.
Her stomach felt nauseated.
She wanted to throw up.
She sat down on the toilet a minute to catch her breath.
Janet looked down between her legs. She noticed she had started her period. The cramps were
horrid. She hurt so bad that she wanted to curl up and die.
She pulled a pad out from underneath the sink and finished preparing herself for the day.
Janet breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
