Maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t only for couples

February 8, 2012 ~ 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is With Valentine's day is next week, how will you celebrate February 14th? If you have a significant other what will you do for them? if not, what will you for yourself?

I normally don’t celebrate Valentine’s day because I’ve always considered it a couples holiday. I never considered doing anything for myself because all the ads emphasize couples activities and gifts. The most I ever do on to commemorate this holiday is write a story or poem. However, this year I’m going to take a different approach.

I have a $2.00 off coupon for an ice cream cake from Baskin Robins. The cake pictured on the coupon is heart shaped with white frosting and red hearts. The message written on the coupon is “Surprise you Sweetheart”. The coupon is for any cake, with the minimum being a $12.00 cake.

I think I’ll buy the $12.00 cake. I want either chocolate or strawberry; I’ll decide which one when I get into the store. I’ll probably buy the chocolate cake, but it depends on how I’m feeling that day. Sometime I like deciding on the type of cake or ice cream before going into the store and at other times I prefer to wait until I’m ready the purchase the ice cream cake.

This year, I’m looking forward to Valentine’s day. Perhaps it isn’t exclusively for couples. After all, Saint Valentine did give his name to the day, so maybe, if I approach it with the right attitude, I can enjoy it as a single woman. I’ll have to do a little research on Saint Valentine.
