Prologue - The Fate of Grace
My name is Dakota Grace Hawk. I go by my middle name, Grace. Dakota is the name my father chose for me, but my mother wanted to call me Grace. Their compromise was that my first name could be Dakota, but my mother wanted people to know me as Grace. It had the potential to create a plethora of personality disorders, but I ended up relatively normal. Relatively. I'm 22 years old. I'm potentially the "oldest" 22 year old anyone has ever known. I tend to know about things I've never studied. I tend to feel for things as if they actually happened to me personally. I don't know if this is a character flaw, but somedays it makes me feel like a superhero. Other days it makes me feel like a freak of nature. Most days are the "other" days. I know so many people, but I keep total control about how much they know about me. I stay at a safe distance to avoid the potential of anyone knowing me deeply enough to hurt me. No one has hurt me so far, but I know pain's potential.
