Futbol! "When snowfields come to claim the land"
*Flower1* Orosi in the rain *Flower1*

The field was wet, muddy and I huddled under my umbrella. When I left the game was tied. I didn't stay until the end. The vendors probably didn't stick around either. It was Sunday, after mass, and Paraíso is just up the hill, but the rain... and the mud...

When snowfields come to claim the land

When snowfields come to claim the land
will they come like this:
dark days and days of unrelenting cold,
the grey sky-blanket protecting drifts,
snow lingering beyond the death
of leaf, of limb,
of deep roots guarding hope until the end
as yet another glacial age begins
when we become pressed fossils under snow and ice,
when ice and bone both grind to flakes of dust.

Three days of bone-cold snowy gusts.
I think of Lake Missoula looming overhead
a thousand feet above my bed,
these hills mere stony muck
awash with bones of trees and men,
in time ground fine as sand.

Will they come like this?

When next the snowfields come to claim the land.

Sketching it out *Cat*:

The cold has been historical. Old record lows were broken by as many as 20 degrees. Unheard of. Some of the trees may even die. Here in Missoula it bottomed out at 8º. Temperatures below zero were recorded. During the ice Age, Lake Missoula was a thousand feet deep where now I sit.

Dear Blog...
I feel the need to go outside...
I may be a long thyme...
Slainte
Marcus

And then he changed his blog title to "Brrrrrrr...It's cold out here!" and disappeared. I hate it when folks do this! I assume... he deleted his account by mistake, but it's not the only explanation that makes any sense. I've already commiserated with ShellySunshine Author Icon and Soccie Author Icon. It's hard to lose a family member. *Sad*

Can he make it reappear? Now... that's one for the blue, purple and red cases around here. *Rolleyes* Me? I'm just a blond case... and clueless. *Shock*

Soccie Author Icon quoted Seuss in her note to me:

“Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” ~Dr. Seuss

Okay mods... this view thing is bothering me... now over 53k views for this blog-bog and mounting. Has anyone else had a flurry of blog views from unknown sources? I mean... I shouldn't complain, but it's annoying to merely get "hits" and not know why. Comments have not increased and no new-to-WdC commenters ... and I'm not getting any offers from publishers or calls from friends. So... are aliens upping my numbers? I mean... being number #2 on the blog list is fine. 2 is my favorite number; 1 is not.

Me and Mine *Cat*:

Warmed into the 40s. I went out to buy sugar and tuna fish I forgot last time. Had to poke my piggy bank to pay... of course, I couldn't resist the peanut butter or the artichoke white pesto... both on sale, of course!

Harrar with milk and sugar = sweet. *Smirk*

Watt's Gnus *Cat*:

Since we are talking about losses (me talk, you listen) I thought I would include this video from a high school football game where one team blocked the field goal, but didn't realize the game hadn't ended. So... the other team still won when they ran the ball into the end zone. Someone has egg on their face.

More sports: Buffalo Bills scored 3 points in their loss to the Cleveland Browns which won on a final minute field goal 6-3. I'm sure I've seen soccer games with more scoring... certain of it.

Soccer (properly known as football or better yet FUTBOL!): Costa Rica lost 0-1 to Brasil in the U-20 (Under 20 years old) FIFA semi-final. Ghana defeated Hungary 3-2. It's Ghana-Brasil in the final on the 16th in Egypt.

And FIFA 2010 (South Africa) will see both Ghana and Brasil there as well. U.S. and Mexico have qualified, with the Ticos from Costa Rica still hoping...

But pity poor Malta, a team that hasn't scored one goal in the qualifying round, or San Marino which has scored 1 but given up 44 in 9 games. Futbol can be a crushing experience.

South America, though, is serious fun. The ten teams gleefully beat up on each other every four years. Today Argentina goes to Montevideo. If Uruguay wins they are in. If Ecuador also upsets Chile (already in) in Santiago... Argentina is out in the cold cold cold. *Shock* The Che are not accustomed to standing out in the cold looking in.

Montana *Cat*: 38º in Missoula at 11 a.m and a crying rain. *Cry*
