Fire Good
Today, they finished up the installation of our new gas fireplace.

I've been resisting gas fireplaces. When I was a kid, I chopped wood to keep warm, and liked it!

Okay, no, I didn't like it. But still, I didn't like the idea of a gas fireplace. Too easy. No more hauling in wood and cleaning up the sawdust mess. No more banking the fire at night. No more dealing with smoke blowing into the house. No more making the smoke alarms stop beeping. No more cleaning out the ashes.

And then I realized: Wait a minute. I'm lazy.

So we bought a gas fireplace for the downstairs area, near my computer so I can stop freezing my balls off down here, and it's now sitting there blazing at me.

It even has a remote control, in case I don't feel like getting off the couch to make the flames higher.
