A Bit on Site Navigation

Hey, everyone!

I want to welcome the great bunch of newbies we have this month, and to say welcome back to the rest of you. This month, I'm returning to the basics. We all remember how confused we were as newbies, and how delighted we were in finding something new.

No newsletter or link could possibly list everything the site has to offer; I will just stress how important it is to click on everything and explore. You will be surprised at what you find. I promise!

I have been asked if reviews we send to others are available somewhere. Yes, they are all kept until they are deleted by the author. They are located here, in Site Navigation.

AUTHOR'S TOOLS - MY FEEDBACK

FeedBack is a very important part of Writing.Com. This utility provides all members access to view the reviews they have sent and those they have received. Upgraded & Premium Members have access to view their sent ratings organized by Author or Genre and their received ratings organized by Item and Genre.

My Reviews: [Sent][Received]
Sent Ratings: [By Genre ][By Author]
Received Ratings: [By Genre][By Item]

Can't remember which forum you posted on? Here it is.

MEMBER'S TOOLS - MY POSTS

Here you will find all the posts you have made to any forum on the site. It's handy when you forget the name of the forum and didn't add it to your favorites by clicking the white fist on the right side of the forum.

I remember when I was new and I posted a 'Help Me!' question somewhere. *Smile* I couldn't find the forum again to get my answer. Can you spell frustration? *Laugh*

Then, after a few weeks of exploring I happened to click on the My Posts link just to see what it was, and presto! There were all my posts.

A link in the Member Tools will take you to the Support forum. If you read the forum regularly, you might find the answer to your question already answered. Or the answer to a question you didn't know you had. *Smile* It's a very useful forum to keep in your favorites.

Item Jumps

You'll find all the message forums listed. It's fun to visit new places and meet new people. Post a hello on a few that you haven't been to yet. You may just find another favorite.

The more you become involved the more you will enjoy the site, and you will be able to help the next newbie with their questions.

See you after Christmas! Wow! I can't believe Christmas is almost here again!

I'm still perfecting this piece, so it's certainly not perfect, but a little exposure never hurt on the way to more reviews and suggestions!

Thanks

Good words of advice. I say it all the time. If a person is wheeled into an Emergency Room and his heart isn't beating, what sense does it make to take his temperature? Isn't it the doctor's first priority to get the "heart" beating again?
I try to do this in my writing, AND my reviews. In both cases it is difficult, to say the least, to have the courage to pronounce a "death" and to have no hope of resuscitation. But it is a fact of life we must deal with.

I think that the information is this edtion is apporopriate to more than "newbies." HHow about making this a static item as information foe linking when we are reviewing? Really a good link for all authors. Thanks for all your effort. Lin

Great tips on revising! I really like the checklist, and I think I might print out a copy and hold on to it for future use!

Hey Esprit.

Great newsletter. I knew the difference in the mechanics of revising and editing, but I didn't apply the words properly. I will be sure to do so from now on

Thanks for giving great advice, even to us veterans of the site!

Cheers
Jade

Thanks for differentiating between editting and revising. They tend to be used interchangably, but obviously they are not.

Also, thanks for including a selection of Writing.com sites to explore each newsletter. I'm not new, but I always find something new in the list.

Well done, Lady E. I love your style. You immediately put the reader at ease in a comfortable and "laid back" kind of way. Then you take us into a highly detailed and instructional content body of invaluable service to any aspiring author. Once again, well done, Lady E!
