(1) Describe your protagonist's life in the beginning (Ordinary World or Stasis) of the story. Brainstorm ways you could establish normality through action and dialog to avoid boring your reader.

(2) Describe the inciting incident or trigger (Call to Adventure) that prompts your protagonist(s) to embark on this story's journey (whether literal or metaphorical) and face the conflict. This incident could be large and obvious like a death or disaster, or it could be seemingly insignificant, such as an offhand comment by another character.

1. Describe your protagonist's life in the beginning (Ordinary World or Stasis) of the story. Brainstorm ways you could establish normality through action and dialog to avoid boring your reader.

Queen Ann and King Richard stand adoring over their newborn son's crib watching him sleep. They had big hopes for the son and for their Kingdom of Nevum. The economy was doing well, and they had new businesses and houses being built in their capital City of Townsend. New laws had been passed and systems put in place that made everything seem to flow well and all the people work together. There were plenty of natural resources like water and food. There was so much promise and potential and life kept improving in their beautiful kingdom.

Outside the weather was crisp with a hint of fall in the air. Harold stood outside the palace gates as he watched a couple leaves from a nearby tree. At the sound of laughter, he looked up just in time to see the king and queen walking out the doors of the palace. He was taken aback for a moment by their amazing looks and expensive robes. He had never seen such elegance in all his life. He watched for a moment as they were enjoying a frolic in the palace lawn. They came close enough to him that they made eye contact and he froze. King Richard demanded, "Who are you and why are you watching us?"

Harold stuttered, "I I I am s s sorry your m m majesty. I w w was j j just admiring the pa the pa the palace's beauty." He could hardly believe he was talking to the King.

"No need to be afraid. The Palace is quite beautiful. I to admire it. What is your name?" The King replied.

Before he had a chance to respond, 2 arrows were shot from across the lawn. One hit the king and one hit the queen. With one last dying breath. the queen pleaded, "Please save our son. He is in his crib in the palace." The Queen handed him a key, signet ring, and a talisman. "Hurry" she whispered and dropped to the ground dead.

Harold goes in cautiously and rescues the child.

It was the death of the Queen and King that prompts Harold to save Baby Jacob and raise him as his own son.
