Being good at a job without taking pleasure in it encourages depression and unhappiness. However, that is the way some people today feel about their jobs. This attitude contributes to mental and spiritual stagnation, which in turn may encourage physical stagnation and ill health. A person's job, especially a job one is skilled in should encourage feeling of joy and fulfillment. In addition, I don't see how one can do a good job when one takes no pleasure in it. I know if I don't enjoy what I'm doing then I find the quickest way to do it without worrying about how good a job I'm doing.
