Playing catch up! "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" Prompts 1-10
Day 1 - It's War Chest Wednesday! - What has been the craziest New Year's Resolution you've heard to date? Did you make it or was it made by someone you knew? What became of the Resolution? Tell me a story - Kick in the New Year for me Smile ▼
Haven't heard any crazy ones. Personally I think every time I or someone else makes a resolution to lose weight it's crazy. Not saying it can't be done but 9 x out of 10, unless something major has occurred in your life, the changing of the year isn't enough motivation to get you to actually do something....or anything from that matter.
It's been my experience that people change when they're ready and not a moment before. The odds of that happening right at the first of the year is fairly slim....backwards pun intended.
Day 2 - It's Opinion Thursday! - If you could go back to when you were 19, would you? Would you prefer to have all the knowledge you have now, or start completely fresh? ▼
I was excited by this prompt! At 27.5 years old I have nearly a decade to reflect upon!
I would not go back to 19. I learned a lot during and after that second year of college. I wouldn't mind having some of the knowledge I have now, though I can't think of anything major/specific I wish I had known. It probably shouldn't matter, but I was still a virgin then and my thinking process took a slightly different turn two years later. Not necessarily in a bad way but....well, I would have kept in touch with that foreign guy that exuded passion I wasn't ready for. Man, dunno why I all of a sudden started thinking about him.
Anywho! 19 was a great year, but I'm fine with leaving the past where it is.
Day 3 - Look back on 2013. Read your blog entries from early last year and observe how you've changed. If you weren't blogging early last year, think back to that time and imagine what you would have been doing or thinking about. Now, write an article about your past year of life in the voice of a reporter. Remember: making your reader laugh is key, so this can be as outlandish and overblown as you are brave enough to do Wink Have fun! ▼
*this works as my older brother actually IS a reporter , so I wonder what he would say.....*
Day 4 - It's Creation Saturday! - How was the universe created? Write your OWN creation myth. ▼
Ummm, like w/o Jesus and God and all that?! Ok.....
Once upon a time there was this dinosaur named Binkie. He was king of all the dinosaurs. One day a bunch of ice melted and killed all but 500 or so dinos, including Binkie. Binkie saved them by telling everyone to spread out and look for food. .....
Wait, wait, just realized that's after creation. Ok, Take 2!
Once upon a time there was a spark named Blinkie. He was the brightest of all the sparks! All the other sparks were jealous and made fun of him for being so bright. He didn't mind, he let the haters hate and he fed on their fear. Every time they tried to tear him down he got 2x bigger. He would huff and he would puff and he would blow the other sparks out if they got too close. Til one day a bully spark told him that he was so bright, if he got any brighter he would cease to exist. Which would be good because the other sparks were tired of him.
Well this just made 'ol Blinkie huff and puff the most he ever did. Then he exploded with a BIG BANG and out popped the universe!
True story.
Day 5 - The Sunday Review! - Blog. Tell us about your week. Include your favorite blog entry from your fellow challengers from the preceding week and, most importantly, why. ▼
O wow, that's a lot. I kind of already talked about my trip to GA a lot here, here, and here.
One of my favs comes from
{entry: really sparked my interest because....
Day 6 - It's Wildcard Monday! - How long has it been since you changed the image on your biography page? Browse around your fellow competitors' bio pages and hopefully they have something up for you to see. 'Profile Pictures' are commonplace on most social websites, so I want you to discuss them. What is appropriate? Do you show your face, or display mostly ambiguous pictures? Why? ▼
Ooooo good one, I wonder this every time I view a bio. When I first joined I had up a pic with my eyeballs obscured by big red circles! Why? Because I was wearing red and my hair was in cute kinky twists (the later isn't a reason just an extra tidbit). I didn't show my whole face because I was new and didn't know you folks!
When I turned YELLOW I put up the current pic I have now. Partially because I'm wearing yellow (delightful coin-key-dink) but mainly because it's cute and one of a few I'm genuinely smiling in. It's hard to stage a great smile for pics.....
As a grandfathered Millennial I'm used to having my face plastered all over social media. I don't use my face on ALL sites, but if my name and likeness is on it, why not my face? Strangers see me every time I walk out the door, the internetz don't scare me! I care more about my credit card and social security # being leaked than my face.
Day 7 - It's War Chest Tuesday! - Write about the time you were the most nervous you've ever been. ▼
Ooooo, it's probably a toss up between getting grades back in school/college and any time I knew I was in big trouble. We're talking spanking trouble.
I can't think of a specific anxiety riddled academic event so I'll go with the spankings.
One time I touched something in a hair supply store (I think Sally's) after mom told me not to and I blamed it on the devil.
Another time, I must have been possessed again, I just opened up the car door while we were driving down the road. I was usually a good kid (especially when compared to my lil bro and big sis) so I don't know why sometimes kids just do the things they do....
Any-who, those were two of the most nerve wrecking rides home. So much so I remember them vividly to this day.....
Day 8 - If you had the choice, would you rather be incredibly gifted and talented at one thing, or slightly better than average at lots of different things? Why? ▼
Was excited about this one too.
I think I already am slightly > average at lots of things, all that takes is practice. So I'd prefer to be AMAZING at one thing.
I get so jelly of people who are born with amazing abilities; be it sports, knowledge/IQ, juggling, whatever. Sure with practice you can do just about anything but there's not denying inbred talent. Just look at people who are great at something but they hate doing it for whatever reason. Desire and ability aren't always linked.
Day 9 - What issues would you take a stand on, and what campaign promises would you make, if you ran for Mayor of your current town or city? ▼
Good one. Ummm, I hate politics so this is tough. But, there are always areas for improvement and I would like to improve the presence of Art and Culture in my town! I would also like to make gym/workout memberships affordable for everyone. This would be expanded into more community activities that promote being active at all ages.
We have an amazing bike trail and a few parks already; but when it's cold or dreary that doesn't help. Plus, most people need work out buddies and do better in classes like Zumba/Kickboxing. These can be ridiculously expensive and/or people don't know how cheap they can be/are in some areas. So I'd be sure to raise awareness.
If I could I'd like to lower healthy food prices. Or at least offer tax cuts/incentives to local farmers and organic sellers.
My local library is amazing but it only has 2 branches, plus there's no major community arts program. My dad used to volunteer at his local play house. I'll never forget him playing one of the leads in To Kill A Mockingbird, great memories. I want something like that here so I can get some 'behind-the-acting-scenes' experience.
Day 10 - What is one funny TV show or movie that will always make you laugh no matter how many times you watch it? What makes it funny? Convince me I should watch it. ▼
Hmmmm, My Best Friends Wedding, Parks and Recreation, Red, Glee
MBFWedding is just a classic. One of Robert's last good ones. Diaz is a hoot, especially when she drives, sings, or talks. And we just don't get enough Rupert Everett in the states. Plus, I was only 11 when it came out and it was one of the first 'grown up' movies I got to see; so I think it has a stronger hold on me than others.
I spent too much of today (and a lot of days) watching Parks and Rec reruns. The personalities are so diverse and perfect for the characters. Ron Swanson and Andy Dwyer are arguably the best, but the show wouldn't work without Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope. The addition of Ben and Chris (Rob Lowe, I mean come on, gorgeously hilarious) in Season 2 even jettisoned the comedy up a delightful notch.
The movie Red is amazing in all sorts of ways, combining two of my favs: Action and Old Mature people that kick serious @$$.
Glee is perfect because the kids are honest character depictions and the singing talent is amazing.
