You might think this subject silly. Titles. Is it really that big of a deal? After all, you wrote all this other stuff, maybe even an entire novel. How hard can it be to come up with a title for it?
In my previous newsletter I talked about getting the reader's attention. This one is more about you, your writing, and coming up with the perfect name. Sometimes the idea of writing a story can be so daunting, but we tend to forget how difficult it can be to come up with the title for it. Oftentimes we simply use "Untitled" or "Need to come up with a title", or, my favorite "Not sure what this is yet". You'd think that the imagination of a writer is endless and we can pull things out of a hat, but isn't quite that easy.
There are people who have a knack for coming up with great titles as well as a good tale. Then you have amazing titles but the story lacks the line to hook and tends to sink. It's impossible to have it all right at all times. It's how we learn. Unless you're S.K. I mean...

So simple! Yet the story is anything but.
Perhaps we try too hard to find the right words that will encompass the entire story. There are too many titles which are so long, personally, I give up on reading the title let alone what it is about. Short attention span could play a big role with that. I'm sure I'm not alone in it, so when it comes to choosing the right words, think carefully. Do you want to tell the entire story in a few words or do you want to spell it out to the reader while still not making much sense? That choice is up to you.
Coming up with something catchy can be tough. Not being too obvious, even tougher. Short and sweet? Those might have been used too many times already to stand out in a crowd of the same kind. So, yes, it isn't easy coming up with something unique. The story really has to be different to spark the imagination in the writer to come up with a name for a book in order to truly stand out.
I can advise you to be as creative as possible with your titles, even when it comes to poetry, but it's all up to you. Creativity hit everyone differently at different times and unique words can be hard to find. And since none of us wrote Hunger Games nor Game Of Thrones, IT can be really hard to think of something that pops. Unless you can prove me wrong...
